Hear from Bri Ramos of The Buzz Brand: her 5 tips to stay productive while working from home.

Hello! My name is Bri Ramos and I am thrilled to be guest posting for the lovely Emylee Williams! I have to brag on her for just a sec and say how much I love and appreciate her drive as a woman who I see is chasing after her dreams and taking a whole tribe of us with her along the way! Her leadership and boss-babe-ness is both refreshing and inspiring. Thanks, girl.

A year ago this month (woo hoo! ) I celebrated one year of having my own company, The Buzz Brand! The Buzz Brand focuses on personal and professional branding and exists for the benefit and enhancement of people, companies and society. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV (ya people do that, weird I know..) but I dwell in the lovely little city of Norman, OK (Boomer Sooner).

One of the best parts about what I do, is that it can be done from anywhere. Anywhere usually means my home office.

All though working from home can be one of the best things in the world, it can also be very difficult! If you get distracted as easily as I do, than you know what I mean.

Here are some of the tips + tricks I use to stay productive while working from home!

1. 20 Minute Timer

I lose my focus as quick as a 10 year old boy does in math class (trust me I know, I was a teacher ). I read in an article somewhere about this technique of using a 20 minutes timer to increase your productivity. After I have prioritized my day and looked at what needs to be done, I choose one task and set the timer on my iPhone for 20 minutes. I work uninterrupted on that task, and that task only, for 20 minutes straight. At the end of the 20 minutes, I get up from my desk and do something for about 5 minutes. This could be anything from grabbing a drink, taking my dog outside, checking the mail, tiding up my workspace etc. If I am not done with the task I was working on, I still usually move on to the next item on my list and go back to it. This has allowed me to maximize my day more than I ever have before!

2. Meal Prep

I try to always have snacks and meals ready to go, so I do not have to take a big break in my day to cook or run out and get food. The crockpot has become one of my best friends, as well as rotisserie chickens from the deli! Having meals and snacks on hand saves a ton of time.

3. Get Dressed

Or at least out of your PJs! Me personally, I just feel like getting dressed and putting on even a little bit of makeup totally up levels my productivity mind set!

4. Intentional Scheduling

Some call this creating your “Default Calendar”. Before I got organized, I would work all day long, and feel like I got NOTHING done. I would be in meetings all day, creative brainstorm sessions, doing photo shoots, etc. and before I knew it would be 8 at night and I hadn’t sat down at my desk once! Now I am very intentional about my days and how I schedule my time. Monday, Wednesday Friday are “office” days. Tuesdays and Thursdays are meeting days..

5. Break/Lunch/Gym Time

This may not work for everyone, but it has worked well for me. I have built into my Monday, Wednesday Friday schedule a one hour lunch break, just as you would have in the “normal” work world. Since I usually eat breakfast and have a snack, I use this time to workout with my trainer at 12:45. Having this scheduled into my day (it is literally the only way I can get myself to the gym) allows me to be intentional about my productivity in the morning , erases the excuse of being too tired in the morning or too worn out at the end of the day to workout, and is a great mental break in my day.

The combination of these 5 things (and God being in control of course) have allowed me to run and grow my company over the last year and live a life that I have given myself ownership over. I would love to hear what you babes do to stay more productive at home or in the office !

Dream Big,

- Bri
